BSF Panel 8: The role of Roma in the EU Recovery (BFPE in Partnership with Open Society Foundations – Serbia)
Discussion points:
- How the Roma community of Europe (its largest minority) could contribute to Europe’s recovery?
- How are its economic potentials contributing to their aging countries?
- How can Roma move from grey to green economy?
- And how can a young and growing Roma population increase, instead of decreasing, the human security of their own communities and societies at large?
The EU recovery plan is more than the long-term budget adopted in the summer of 2020 by the European Council. Coupled with the Next Generation EU (NGEU) it is “the temporary instrument designed to boost the recovery, will be the largest stimulus package ever financed in Europe. A total of Euro 2.018 trillion in current prices will help rebuild a post-COVID-19 Europe. It will be a greener, more digital and more resilient Europe.” (official EU website)
Our panel seeks answers to the questions how the Roma community of Europe (its largest minority) could contribute to Europe’s recovery: how are its economic potentials contributing to their aging countries; how can Roma move from grey to green economy; how can a young and growing Roma population increase, instead of decreasing, the human security of their own communities and societies at large?
The panel wants to shed light on Roma initiatives and movements that are already ready to be part and parcel of a long-term recovery plan of their own societies, but are not yet well known and recognized.
