Biography
Dr. Alvaro Mendez is the co-director of the Global South Unit at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and a Senior Associate Fellow at LSE IDEAS. He is an Associate Fellow at the Geneva Centre for Security Policy, as well as an Adjunct Professor at Fudan University and teaches International Relations at the LSE, Sciences-Po Paris, and Peking University. He has published five books Colombian Agency and the Making of US Foreign Policy: Intervention by Invitation; The China-Latin America Axis: Emerging Markets and their Role in an Increasingly Globalised World (with Gaston Fornes); New Development Assistance: Emerging Economies and the New Landscape of Development Assistance; La Conexión: China en la Política Exterior del Perú en el Siglo XXI; and The Political Economy of China–Latin America Relations: The AIIB Membership (with Mariano Turzi). Another book in the making is China and Latin America: Development, Agency, and Geopolitics (with Chris Alden), which is to be published in 2022. He has published articles in such journals as Geopolitics, Global Policy, and Sustainability.
