Biography
Since May 2015, Catherine Wendt has been the head of unit for Serbia in the European Commission’s Directorate General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations, having spent two years before that as head of unit for Kosovo. Prior to this she was head of the communication unit of DG Enlargement, a post she took after having been the advisor to the Director-General. From 2004 until 2009 she was a member of the private office of the European Commissioner for Trade, first Peter Mandelson and then Catherine Ashton. Prior to that she was the Commission representative on the committee for civilian crisis management (CivCom) of the Council of Ministers. During the first part of her Commission career she worked on financial assistance to Croatia. Before this she spent a year in Slovenia managing pre-accession support. Catherine started her career in the British civil service, from where she was seconded to the European Commission to work on regional policy programming. Catherine is British and studied Philosophy, Politics and Economics at the University of Oxford.
