Europe has experienced a ‘polycrisis’ that placed further integration under serious strain. Economic and ecological crises have been compounded by migration waves, terrorist attacks, the return of great power competition, and now a devastating global pandemic. A confidence crisis has gripped democracies and fed into Eurosceptic trends in many EU countries.
Answering these challenges requires an ambitious reform agenda; an EU where strong common institutions coexist with member states, where national and regional identities are respected, and where an open economic model fosters competition and innovation.Where is Europe headed to in the 2020s?
