Biography
Dr Dejan Guzina is associate professor and chair of the Political Science Department at Wilfrid Laurier University (Waterloo, Ontario, Canada). An expert in comparative democratisation and external state-building, his work has been published in several international journals, including National Identities, International Journal of Politics, Culture and Society, and Studies in Social Justice. Together with Dr Catherine Goetze, he co-edited a special issue of Civil Wars on State-building in Post-conflict States (Vol. 10.4, December 2008). His current research is on the role of the European Union as the global conflict manager. As a recipient of CIGI (the Center for International Governance Innovation in Waterloo) Collaborative Research Award in 2012, Professor Guzina is engaged in a two-year project on the EU’s accession policies as they relate to state and democracy building in the Western Balkans (in particular, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kosovo, Serbia), with specific focus on the region’s security governance and juridical reforms.
