Biography
Istvan Gyarmati is a Hungarian diplomat and Professor. He is currently President and CEO of the International Centre for Democratic Transition (ICDT) in Budapest. His career has spanned numerous postings in the Hungarian government. Ambassador Gyarmati is currently Chairman of the Budapest Centre for Euro-Atlantic Integration and Democracy, Senior Political Adviser of the Director of the Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), and of many other international and national institutions and organisations. Between 2008 and 2009, he was the head of the Defense Minister’s Task Force, created to draft the National Military Strategy of the Republic of Hungary. Ambassador Gyarmati holds a Ph.D. in Political Science with a focus on Strategic Studies. He is a member of the IISS, the European Council for Foreign Relations, the European Advisory Group, the NATO Defense College and numerous scientific projects. He is also an Associate Professor at the ZrínyiMiklós National Defense University.
